Beyond Disruption: Innovate and Achieve Growth without Displacing Industries, Companies, or Jobs

An approach to non-disruptive strategy from mainstream researchers may have application for regenerative development innovators.

Focusing on organizational strategy in a field that has largely been occupied with innovation as disruptive and competitive, the authors explore the concept of non-disruptive strategy, one that may be of use to regenerative innovators, particularly those working on the edges of today's markets.

A common theme for many in the regenerative development field is the concept of creating new value, markets, systems rather than trying to reform existing ones. The authors of this piece (interview and a book) are firmly tied to today's economy, not regeneration, but their framing may offer inspiration and useful framing for those seeking to displace today's ways of doing business.

From the interview: "In this edition of Author Talks, McKinsey’s Elissa Bandler chats with author and INSEAD professor Renée Mauborgne about her new book, Beyond Disruption: Innovate and Achieve Growth without Displacing Industries, Companies, or Jobs (Harvard Business Review Press, May 2023), cowritten by W. Chan Kim. Mauborgne discusses the concept of nondisruptive growth and how opportunities exist for companies to innovate and create new market solutions without necessarily upending industries or automatically eliminating jobs.
