Chilkat weaving project kicks off with focus on salmon and sharing knowledge

A project that weaves together nature, people, and history on multiple dimensions.

Taking place among experienced and new weavers, this project focuses on native populations of salmon and demonstrates how arts and expressive activities can be transformative on multiple levels at the same time, creating art, building skills, reconnecting with the natural world and its role in community and more.

From the article: "The project aims to raise awareness about the need to protect salmon and the Chilkat River. Over the next two years, Lani Hotch Saantaas’ and four apprentices will design and weave five Chilkat robes honoring the five species of Pacific salmon that return to the river. "
